Menthol Crystal

Menthol crystal is a natural compound derived from the extraction of oil from mint. It is cool, refreshing and emit a pleasant aroma of mint. Menthol is sometimes called “peppermint camphor”. It works well in products that require the ability to relieve pain and soothe the body. Menthol contains local anesthetic, analgesic and anti-irritant qualities. The use of menthol crystals in bath and body products provides a cooling sensation to the skin. This same sensation also occurs from inhaling.

Always wear a mask when using menthol crystals to make DIY cosmetic or bath and body products such as lip balm, lip salve, lotion, fragrance, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, vapor rub etc. Menthol crystal is soluble in alcohol, propylene glycol and oils (such as olive oil) and only slightly soluble in water. It melts easily at a temperature slightly higher than room temperature.

  • Add a small amount of menthol crystals in warm water/ oil and stir to make sure the menthol crystals are fully dissolved. A little goes a long way so use in small amount. Menthol crystals are very concentrated and beneficial if used in small amount.
  • Add a few drops in steaming-hot water, inhale the vapours to clear sinuses
  • Add a few drops to aromatherapy diffuser/ humidifier with peppermint essential oil
  • Spread some on the shower walls and the steam will release menthol while you shower
Other than bath and body products, menthol crystal is also a popular ingredient in making "vape juice".
